China Chinese Restaurant.
Last night a group of friends went out for dinner at a nice Chinese restaurant just outside of of town. I’d heard a lot about this restaurant and the good Chinese food it made, no doubt contributed that it was actually run by Chinese. It was an ideal place to take Jay’s fiancé, Lillian, whose currently visiting from Taiwan. So a whole bunch of us went out and had a delightful evening together.
Jay, pretending he can read both Korean and Chinese. Oh wait, they did have English on the menu too.
Jay and Kevin. Kevin is one of the few Korean men I know who can speak relatively good English and I can speak normal speed with him and for the most part he’ll understand. He also has the pulse on all the good ’spots’ in Andong.
First dish, crab soup. In desperate need of some soy sauce or salt. Thankfully Jay did get us some soy sauce.
Second course. No, it wasn’t a plate of pink flowered onions, but deep fried fish with a sweet sauce poured liberally over it.
I don’t know, regardless of where you go or eat in Korea, they always have a seem to have a salad drenched in thousand island dressing (or at least tomato sauce and mayonnaise mixed together).
Mushrooms and noodle dish.
Steamed buns.
Jajjang-myon. Or noodles with black bean sauce.
Couldn’t eat this one, I have to settle for the instant beef, 50 cent, variety in the super market.
Walking out of the restaurant and concluding a very nice day.
We managed to have a very delicious meal and while a few of the guys went on for drinks, Jay, Lillian, and I headed home as Jay was a tad under the weather with a cold. I was, thankfully, recovering well from mine and am about 85% today. All up, a good night.
Earlier in the day I decided to take the bike out for a little spin seeing as I hadn’t done so in over 3 weeks. Again, I was somewhat nervous on it, but after I started rolling it felt pretty good. In fact it felt very good and every time I ride it it seems so much easier. I used to worry about stalling my starts, but now that isn’t so much a problem. Nor is negotiating with other commuters on the crazy Andong roads. I ended up riding to taekwondo and then Emart for a bit of shopping before heading home.
I was planning on going out again this Wednesday (which is a public holiday) but instead my taekwondo teacher has offered to take me to the mountains (I can’t remember which ones) in the morning instead with some of the ajumma’s (mothers) in my class. It should be a lot of fun. I had lunch with a few of the mother’s today too after taekwondo, a teach from our master who I think felt a little guilty about cancelling classes all last week and some of this week due to unexpected developments. Again, was a fun time, even if I did only get about 10% of the conversation.
Anyway, time for bed.
