A wonderful birthday.
I turned the BIG 30 yesterday. That’s right, your beloved David has turned the corner on yet another decade. Don’t worry, I’m not going to write a lengthy blog about turning 30, suffice to say I don’t really mind joining this latest club. The truth is I feel like I’m at least 30, so its only fitting that my age has caught up with me.
It was also the reason we went to Seoul last weekend, to get away and have some time for Em and I to celebrate my birthday.
Today I decided to keep the whole thing low key. I had received some nice cards and my parents sent me a little something to celebrate the occasion. My brother called me last night to wish me on behalf of his family.
Em bought me some new sneakers, which I drastically needed, and I’ll wear them tomorrow.
At night, Scott and Anna organized a little party in Scott’s last class to say ‘Happy Birthday’ which I thought was really touching. Thanks guys.
On my way home, I met up with Em and we picked up some jjimdalk (찜닭), which Scott was nice enough to order for me before my last class. We took that home where Em further surprised me by showing the birthday paper cups and plates she had bought after school today (she rushed to E Mart after coming back from Andong and before teaching). She also bought me a very nice birthday cake.
We ate our meal together on our small plastic table, just sharing each other’s company.
Some photos…

Despite the fact that I look like I’ve just crawled out of a hospital, in actuality, I’m wearing my comfortable night gown and hunching over to get into the photo.
The bags under my eyes, unfortunately, is a result of teaching children. It does take its toll!

We didn’t eat that much did we?
It was a great day for me. Thanks to everyone for all the birthday wishes. And BIG thanks to my wonderful girlfriend, Em. She went out of her way today to ensure I had a memorable day. Its the little things like that which continually tell me what a special and amazing person she is, and how lucky a shmuck like me has her in my life.
Thanks baby.
