1 up. Symonds v Ryder. Part I
I don’t want to tell you I told you so, but the Aussie have won the first test against New Zealand by an overwhelming 149 runs. Actually, the margin really doesn’t represent the closeness of the game, and in the end an unbeaten century by Simon Katich was the only difference between the two teams. It seems hardly enough to rub into the face of either Stafford and Aaron (oh those poor boys).
What I really miss was the classic encounters I used to write about. Symonds v McMillian (arguable the greatest New Zealand cricket player), and last season the Symonds v Oram saga.
So what other beacon of New Zealand can we put up against Symonds? Well in the spirit of all-rounder’s, why not Jesse Ryder?

Let’s not rush too far into comparing careers. Ryder only just completed his third, the other two being against lowly Bangladesh, so we’ll keep it to this series only. How did they do?
Symonds; 26 & 20, and 0/4 & 0/12
Ryder; 30 & 24, and 2/7 & 0/8
Well both did fine with the bat, and Ryder did well to take 2 cheap wickets. So its Ryder in front, but I’m sure Symonds will pick up the pace.
Should be an interesting little contest.

Ok, finally…
It’s good to see that England are lulling the Aussies into a false sense of security ahead of the Ashes by getting twatted in India. I’m not sure they haven’t arranged the terrorism there just to avoid a 7-0 humiliation…

DO:I think after the last Ashes series, the Poms don’t need to do much more losing for us to change our opinion of them.
