Remembrance Day, Pepero Day, and Twig and Bark Day.
Today is Remembrance Day back home in Australia.
In Australia Remembrance Day is always observed on 11 November, although the day is not a public holiday. Services are held at 11am at war memorials and schools in suburbs and towns across the country, at which "Last Post" is sounded by a bugler and a one-minute silence is observed. In recent decades, however, Remembrance Day has been partly eclipsed by ANZAC Day (25 April) as the national day of war commemoration.

I always remembered observing the 1 minute silence at school, never really sure why we were doing. When I got a little older and finally understood the point of the minute silence (which I’m sure was explained to us students many, many times) I came to realize what a fine tradition it is to pay homage to those that have served under the Australia flag, and those that currently do.
Regardless of ones stand regarding the politics of war and interactions overseas with our troops, one cannot question the bravery and sacrifice our soldiers make for us and our way of living.
If Remembrance Day wasn’t enough, it’s also Pepero Day here in South Korea (and ‘Twig and Bark Day’ in North Korea).
Pepero Day is an observance in South Korea similar to Valentine’s Day. It is named after the Korean snack Pepero and held on November 11, since the date "11/11" resembles four sticks of Pepero.
The holiday is observed mostly by young people and couples, who exchange Pepero sticks, other candies, and romantic gifts. Lotte denies starting the holiday and instead states that they noticed a bump in Pepero sales around November 11th and after continued popularity they decided to then encourage the holiday with special gift boxes and other promotions.
Some consider it to be a contrived holiday and some teachers have encouraged children to exchange healthy snacks to help combat obesity.

I won’t go too much into Pepero Day, but you can read some of my previous years experience here;
It’s also pay day, so that’s an interesting set of three events today.
