Going through the old boxes.
One of the things I’m really not enjoying in relation to the prospects of moving, is going through my junk stuff. It’s no secret that I do like to collect a lot of things, I’m not sure why, but I feel that throwing something out somewhat breaks an un-seeable connection I have to where I got it in the first place. As a result I have boxes that urgently require my attention.
Em and I also have ‘collective’ boxes where we have put our stuff together. Em has, thankfully, managed to sort them out yesterday without too many problems. She has a ruthless streak that can easily throw out things that she no longer needs or plays no real importance in our lives. It’s a characteristic that I need to acquire, within the next 10 minutes, before I sort out these boxes.
I still am rather surprised that Em was able to condense 6 medium sized boxes into a mere 2. Can I do that?
My biggest disappointment was my candy collection. Yes. Fine. My first year here, actually the first couple of months here, Mike (my old flat mate in Andong) and I went out during Valentine’s Day and brought a whole bunch of the coolest looking candy. I’d never seen candy wrapped like canned tuna, Heineken beer, or chocolate cigars and cigarettes. I didn’t buy them to eat (I’m not a big candy fan to begin with) but to keep as a memento of my time here in Korea, and, well, gosh darn, they’re just so cute, too.
To my utter shock, though, the bag had somehow gotten moist and most of the candy hadn’t faired all that well. As a result I tossed the whole thing out.
I probably should have thrown them out anyway, but it would have been nice to do it on my own terms.
At least the decision was easier.
So anyway, off we go.
