Mincemeat Pies.
Christmas is all about good people, good food, and good drink. In Korea, for the most part, we don’t have our families to celebrate the day (unlike last year was I was fortunate to have Mom and Dad here) so it’s solely up to us to make the most of the day.
Some of you decide to go out with a group of people, mainly foreigners, and have get together and a few drinks. That’s a great way to spend Christmas in my books, and there’s very little reason you’d feel alone without family and friends back home.
Others, like me, are happy to spend their day with that special someone, enjoying a nice meal together, a glass of wine from back home, and some funny Christmas movies to help wind the day down.
And of course there are those who decide to keep Christmas as just another day and stay home by themselves doing whatever they do to keep happy. More power to them if that’s what they want.
For Christmas I do like to make it as Christmassy as possible. Be it a tree, a roast chicken (it’s kind of like turkey) vege’s and roast potatoes, and Christmas presents, it does give me the feeling that the day is something more special then a regular day off (although there’s nothing ‘regular’ about the days we’ve had off these days).
This year I decided to make something a little different; Mincemeat pies. I actually had mincemeat pies in Korea a couple of years back when my parents sent me out a box. I’m a not a huge fan of mincemeat pies, or anything overly sweet to be honest, but I do like the occasional one.
My mom send me out a bottle on mincedmeat (for anyone not familiar with mincemeat, it actually doesn’t have any meat in it) so I didn’t have to be fussed making it (which I can only imagine how difficult it would be to make and obtain the ingredients here in Korea). The pastry was easy enough to make and, well, the photos’ below tell the result.
And the taste? Delizioso!

Sweet, crunchy, and the rich taste of mincemeat in the middle.

Rustic, fresh, and piping hot. There is no better way to eat the Christmas festive season.
