Changes to Staypuff.net. Private posts.
I’ve always been happy to share my experiences here on Staypuff.net with family, friends, and anyone who happens to pop in to say, ‘hello’. Be it my travels to other cities or countries, experiences with other cultures, difficulties with life living abroad, or the path we all have to follow when it comes to relationships, it’s been somewhat of an open book on the site. It’s been a great way for me to let out some of my happier moments, as well as some of the frustrations we all deal with in life.
For the most part, the feedback I’ve received here from you readers has been wonderful, and I’m happy to say I’ve met a hell of a lot of nice people through the site that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise. In addition, the support with certain problems I’ve encountered has also been incredibly advantageous and more than generous, especially from some of my more frequent readers.
The sum it up, the site has been a real blessing for me, and an awesome way for me to track my travels and adventures for when I’m an old man and my grandchildren need to be bored for a few hours.
Of course life changes, and with it one must make appropriate measures to other areas in their life to accommodate these changes. Now that I’m living in Beijing, engaged to most spectacular woman in the world, and working for a more professional company, I don’t feel I can make my life as transparent as it once was through this public forum. In particular close friends and family may not feel appropriate for me to share information about them within my posts, for no other reason that’s it’s not anyone else’s business.
I guess it’s fair to say that I’ve been guilty of releasing too much information about others within giving enough thought on how they may feel about me posting it. Not mention that a lot of what I post simply doesn’t need to be public information.
That’s why I’ll be instituting a lot of private posts that will only be accessible by close family and friends. That’s not my way of blocking people out of my site, I’ll still be posting a lot of public posts, although they will be more along the lines of public information or my experiences both her in China, elsewhere, and everyday life that doesn’t involve others or too much about myself.
In many ways it’s allows me to post a lot more about myself to people I want to share information with but haven’t been able to in the past due as the information would have been public information.
So you want to have access to these pages? Well, to be honest, it’ll be invite only. As I mentioned previously, only a small number of very close family and friends will be included, so most people won’t be able to see my private posts, and to be quite honest with you, I’m not sure most of you want to see those posts to begin with.
I’m not too familiar with how the private feature works in Wordpress, but it appears that only users with at least editor status can see the posts, which isn’t desirable as I wouldn’t want users to play around with my settings. So for the moment I’ll just implement a password instead. This isn’t desirable either, as one password would give a user access to all my posts and I don’t want to post a different password to all users for every single post.
Until I can find a better way to implement this, it’ll do (if anyone knows a good plug-in, please let me know).
So for most of you, it’s nothing to worry about. if you see the odd private post or one requiring a password, you’ll know why.
As for me, I look forward to sharing my adventures in Beijing to you all. if you have any questions, please feel free to email me or leave a comment(s).
PS – I’m also looking into finding a good photo storage site as Flickr is banned here in China.

DO: No comment… other than to say Chinese influence has played a part in my decision.
Stafford: The fresh air would certainly be welcomed there.
